Toyota quality is mind numbingly reliable. The interior door trim for example is plastic but isn't hard. There is some give, and you can tell a team of engineers spent decades pouring over study group surveys. This doesn't stop a dozen 1" and 3/4" PVC pipes for scarring up the trim for a small irrigation build. But at least it feels nice to the touch. The engine also is very reliable and has survived multiple cross-country road trips, Boston to San Diego. The problem with it, and with other 4 pots is, I find I need to keep the rev counter at 4 grand or higher if you want any performance. Next time I'll be looking at the V6. I must say it is great for our four year old. Just last night he turned the dome light on. It was on all night, and yet it started up just fine this morning. The upholstery on the seats has proven very durable against his urine, vomit, spilt milk and melted chocolate. All these stains came up with relative ease with the upholstery attachment on our carpet cleaner. I have found that the locks have the same problem with all mechanical locks. They seize if not used. I always find myself trying to get more synthetic oils into those pesky varmints. There are three pieces that have let me down. I don't think it would be far to say they failed, just let me down. First, is one of the air filter lock down nuts, which are supposed to be captive, fell off the vehicle. Second, the trunk was frozen shut once, while I lived in Ohio. I did what anyone with a cart full of groceries would do: a spinning heel kick. The plastic cover supporting the opening latch and lock broke, but the trunk opened. Third, I've had to replace the brake light sensor twice. Oh, I've also had to replace the key fob. Don't worry, it was only $120!!!! Finally, the utility is nice. The trunk is large, and there is plenty of cab space for four grown ups -- with legs. I have very happy with the car and surprised it is still with me considering how mean my son and I treat it.
