Sporty, yet economical
While I did not go to the Ford dealership, even considering a Ford Focus as something that I might be interested in, I was surprised at how much I liked it. It's easy to maneuver, which is a plus. The interior has a nice and cozy feeling. I am really enjoying the Microsoft Sync feature that allows me to use voice commands to control things in my car. It doesn't always pick up on what I say the first time, but it isn't awful at all. For a smaller car, the trunk space is plenty. In fact, I was able to haul my medium-sized dining room table with the backseats folded down, which was impressive. Gas mileage is pretty good--I get around 23 MPG combined, which I'm mostly happy with. The gas tank is a little odd though, as there is no lid--all you need to do to fill the tank is open the little cover and put in the pump to fill up. It's convenient, but I worry about it sometimes. It's not the most spacious in the backseat, but that isn't a big deal for me right now. The Focus I have is the color, "racer red" and I think it's gorgeous. Very easy to find in parking lots, to boot! All in all, I'm happy with the car and hope that it stands up to the test of time.

Ford Focus - Dependable after all these years
The Ford Focus (2004) in ZX3 trim is, by far, one of the most rock-solid automobiles that I have ever owned, and this is coming from someone who has owned more than his share of vehicles, from my old beater 1982 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, through various Asian imports (including multiple Altimas). And I always make an effort to pick rental cars that I have never driven before. In short, I have a fair share of experience driving all manner of makes and models of non-luxury automobiles, and this variety of the Ford Focus is up their with the best! A big part of the Focus hatchback experience is the surprising acceleration from the 2.2 liter engine, which has shocked the drivers of BMW M3s with it get-up-and-go. And the feeling that you get cornering in this version of the Focus hatchback is something akin to tearing through a supermarket in a go-kart. Fun, fun, fun! Of course, if the car was unreliable, it would have died on the side of the road, with a white rag hanging out of the driver's side window, like a hanky of surrender, on any one of a number of trips across the desert. But this bad boy just keeps trucking along after all these years!
