loyal, impressed, happy
I initially knew I wanted a truck for hauling straw bales and doing general farm chores, as well as for the four wheel drive traction in deep snow. I also knew that I didn't want the gas guzzling full size Chevy, so I opted for the Colorado. I wasn't disappointed. Compared to my old Chevy Blazer, which only got 18 miles per gallon, this Colorado sipped gas (even in 4 wheel drive) at 25 miles per gallon. I liked the rugged looking body shape and having 4 wheel drive smoothly engage with the push of a button (rather than a gear shift like my old Blazer) was heavenly. Make no mistake, this midsize truck could do some heavy chores. I used it to tow a trailer, filled it full of straw bales, winched out a stranded motorist, and pulled out a tree stump. Yet, it rode as smoothly as my mother's passenger car (a Buick LeSabre) when on the highway. I did purchase the truck used, so there were a few "kinks" to work out. The most annoying was an electrical issue that caused the clock to reset itself on a regular basis and the AC not to work most of the time (yet the heater always worked), but it wasn't serious enough to drain the battery or cause any other control panel issues. Plus, I don't care about AC, just as long as I have heat and defogging capabilities. The more serious issue was a problem with the driver's side window. After lowering the window at the drive-through bank, the rocker switch just stopped working. This was during a bitterly cold February and I drove to the nearest dealership where, 4 hours later, they told me that they would have to replace the window electrical components in the door panel but did not have the parts on hand. After a kind mechanic manually forced the window up, I went home and researched the problem. This was a known issue yet GM had not done a recall nor given any ideas on how to fix it. Luckily, others out in cyberland with more mechanical aptitude had figured out a fix and I was able to follow their instructions and "reset" my window electronics. It worked fine after that. All in all, I love this truck and would readily purchase another. As someone who works the night shift and is on call, I depend heavily on this vehicle to get me through some terrible winter road conditions, including mud and gravel roads that often get covered by tall snowdrifts in winter. I've never missed a shift and trust this vehicle to start up after my 12 hour shift, even if it has been sitting in subzero temperatures. This truck may be small compared to the big Rams, Silverados, and F250s, but it is quite maneuverable and capable in the snow and every bit as tough.
