Glad I chose a sedan over a subcompact hatchback.
I car shopped for a month. I was researching every gently used, subcompact car on the market and have been pleased with my choice. My new-to-me 2014 Chevrolet Sonic sedan is the perfect fit. This swift little car gets excellent gas mileage, has all the bells and whistles including Sirius XM radio, and is a breeze to drive around town or long road trips. After looking at several hatchback vehicles, I really wasn't impressed with the lack of storage in them. We popped open the trunk of the Sonic, and I was blown away by the ample amount of space it provides. As the grocery getter of the family, it holds it all! As for performance, I have found it to have just enough get up and go to merge on the freeway, and it operates very smoothly on the highway. The highest speed I have reached so far is 78 mph, but that is enough for me, and I was very comfortable going that fast. The car was stable and smooth. If I were a big time road trip taker, it could use a little more power for heavier driving, but it jaunts around the city with ease. If I were to name a dislike, which there are few, it would be to have the trunk button placed somewhere else. It's currently in the center console, and I've accidentally popped it open a few times.

An Average Car
I purchased my 2012 Chevy Sonic brand new back in November 2012. While it is a good car for the most part, I have had some problems with it that would deter me from buying a Sonic again. For example, from day one, I have had problems with my tires. They are constantly losing air pressure and need to be filled, even after the tires were replaced. Furthermore, I found out during my first oil change at the dealership that there is a loose cable in the computer part of my car that cannot be fixed without a substantial amount of money. This loose cable causes my engine light to turn on and off at random, so I never know if there is a real problem or not. Lastly, not long after I bought it, a turbine in my transmission was recalled which required a lengthy service and was just a scary experience in general.
On the plus side, the car gets great mileage, especially on highways. I took it on a 1,800 mile road trip a few years ago and had no problems whatsoever. Also, it may appear to be a small sedan, but the back seats actually are able to be pushed down in order to create more trunk space. When I moved, I was able to fit basically my whole life in the expanded trunk.
Overall, it's a pretty good car, although not worth what I paid for it. In hindsight, I should have bought used instead.
