Very dependable and strong
I have a 2000 Dodge Ram. The only cons I have about this truck is that it doesn't have good gas mileage. Also, the dashboard is cracked. This happens regularly on this model, and I'm not sure why Dodge has not fixed this defect. The truck is extended cab and is very roomy. The middle console provides lots of storage. The truck is very dependable. I bought my truck from my neighbor, who also said is was very dependable. They truck is also very strong. You can hear the toughness when you drive it. I have pulled a lot of things with my truck without any problems. Overall, a great truck.

A Long Lasting Truck
My father originally purchased this truck, and after 14 years passed it down to me. This truck was my first car and I could not have asked for a better one. In the 16 years that we have owned it, we have only had to perform general maintenance and upkeep. It still runs great and has almost 200,000 miles on it. It has a cab large enough to accommodate an entire family as well as supplies for everything from and entire dorm room's worth of furniture to any home renovation project you can dream up. While it is not the most luxurious truck, it has everything you need including padded seats, air conditioning, heat, automatic windows, and for the retro fans, a cassette player. If I could change one thing about this vehicle it would be the fuel consumption. It was not particularly environmentally friendly when we bought it, and it has not gotten better with time, but I would expect that from the V8 engine it has. Overall, I would recommend this truck to anyone looking for a dependable vehicle that will keep working for years and years.

Handles well but Chrysler made mistakes
If you've ever owned a Dodge, then you know their transmissions aren't anything to write home about. Mine went out at 60,000 then again at 200,000. The last time I replaced it a cooler was added to the system to try to get more life out of it. This was also one of the years of the Epic Plenum Gasket Fail which led to Chrysler's cheap software fix, the Death Flash, that retarded timing and ultimately the quality of my ride. Basically the use of two different types of metal fried my plenum gasket, which then allowed oil and air into places it did not belong. Instead of recalling the trucks and replacing the affected parts with correctly engineered ones, Dodge's fix was to simply "flash" the truck's computer with the retarded timing software upgrade when I took it to the dealer, without telling me, which resulted in a massive loss of power, especially accelerating up hills, and overall just made my truck run like junk. 1995 was the first year of the new body style for Dodge pickups, and so despite her mechanical failures, she sure looks lean and mean. I do think Dodge has upper hand as far as design goes in pickups. Being a short wheel base, she is incredibly responsive in the curves, almost too much so for the inexperienced driver. Care should be taken until you get a feel for the truck.
