2025 Chevy Silverado EV Review

Vehicle Type: Full-size electric pickup truck

Price Range: $57,095-$97,895

Powertrain: The 2025 Chevrolet Silverado EV comes with two electric motors with a max rating of up to 754 horsepower in fully-loaded RST trim.

The base Work Truck trim has 519 horsepower, while the middle LT trim puts out 645 horsepower.

All versions of the Silverado EV come with all-wheel drive.

The basic Silverado EV Work Truck with a Max Range battery has a driving range of 492 miles, while the RST with the Max Range battery has a 460-miles range.

The mid-range LT trim can go up to 408 miles with a full charge and its sole battery option, the Extended Range.

What’s New for 2025?

The entire lineup and available battery sizes for the Chevrolet Silverado EV have been expanded for the 2025 model year. A Standard Range battery pack offers a new base option for the Work Truck trim, for a total of three battery sizes. This is also the first year the Work Truck trim is available to the general public, offering a stripped-down option for drivers on a budget who still want the benefits of an electric pickup.

What’s Good?

  • The largest battery available for the 2025 Silverado EV offers an incredible range that can make it a practical vehicle for everyday driving
  • The optional four-wheel steering is a great choice for those who've found the standard Silverado 1500 too large for city driving
  • The fully-loaded RST version has the power and range needed for almost any kind of driver, with plenty of towing capacity

What’s Bad?

  • Infotainment features are slightly lacking, even on the higher trims, which lack smartphone mirroring
  • The base Silverado EV WT lacks even the most basic features, and may be too bare-bones for many drivers
  • Braking performance leaves quite a bit to be desired, especially from the RST trim, which experiences brake fade after many stops

Would we buy one? Yes! As a more traditional alternative to the Tesla Cybertruck and a powerful electric vehicle, the 2025 Silverado EV is a great option that stands out from the current crop of electric trucks.

Overview:

2025 Chevy Silverado EV Back Right Side (Overview)

This is the second model year that the all-electric Chevrolet Silverado EV has been on the market, and it's now available in a broader range of forms. With everything from the most basic work truck to a completely loaded top-tier trim, the Silverado EV is a great option. Originally, the Silverado EV only came in the base WT trim and the high-end RST trim, with the WT trim only available to commercial fleet customers, but a new LT trim for 2025 presents a mid-range version that's perfect for those who need a little more comfort and tech without the massive price tag.

The 2025 Silverado EV is a dual-motor electric truck with three battery sizes: Standard Range, Extended Range, and Max Range. The base WT trim with a Standard Range battery puts out 510 horsepower, while the middling LT trim with an Extended Range battery pack puts out 645 horsepower. If you want the ultimate in range and power, though, the top-of-the-line RST trim level with a Max Range battery will deliver 745 horsepower. The RST model is also available with a Wide Open Watts driving mode that gives the truck a 0-60 mph time of 4.1 seconds, so there is no loss of the sought-after electric vehicle acceleration, even in such a large pickup. While the maximum towing capacity for the Silverado EV is 12,500 pounds, Chevrolet has plans to introduce a new model with a capacity of up to 20,000 pounds in the coming model years.

The ranges of the different battery packs are just as impressive as the power they produce. With GM’s new Ultium battery technology, the Silverado EV has an EPA-estimated 492-mile range from the Max Range battery in base WT trim. The RST trim with a Max Range battery has an EV range of 460 miles, and the LT, with its sole Extended Range option, has a 408-mile capacity. The truck’s fast charging abilities also stand out from the crowd, with the ability to charge from 10 to 90 percent in just an hour. Using a public DC charger, the Silverado EV can get 100 miles of range in 10 minutes. While there were no official MPGe figures from the EPA for the whole lineup at the time of writing, it's safe to say that they will be impressive when the testing is finished.

Inside, the Silverado EV has passenger space similar to that of the standard crew cab Silverado. While the amenities and comfort features vary greatly between the base Work Truck and the RST, the LT is a nice middle ground that's comfortable enough for longer drives and commuting. The loaded RST trim level comes with black-and-white leather seats, a glass roof, and a column-mounted shift stalk. This increases the amount of space in the front seats and makes for a roomy ride for the driver and front passenger. Unlike other pickups, there's also plenty of room in the rear seats for adults.

Even the base WT version of the Silverado EV comes with an 11-inch touchscreen infotainment system and an eight-inch digital gauge display. If you opt for the LT or RST, though, the infotainment screen size can be increased to 17.7 inches and the gauge display is bumped up to 11 inches. Strangely, only the smaller infotainment system includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while Sirius XM and a Wi-Fi hotspot are both standard.

The Chevy Silverado EV also comes with a range of driver-assistance and safety features. These include standard automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. You can also add an available adaptive cruise control system, which comes with GM’s Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving mode on both the LT and SRT trims.

The 2025 Silverado EV is an excellent alternative to some of the less practical electric pickups on the market. While the likes of the triple-motor GMC Hummer EV and the Tesla Cybertruck are powerful, their ranges are much lower than the Chevrolet's. The Silverado also has a higher power output than the Ford F-150 Lightning and, with a lower MSRP than the Rivian R1T, it'sis an excellent middle-ground for those who need capability and practicality.

Overall Score: 4.5/5 stars

Driving Experience: 5/5 stars

2025 Chevy Silverado EV Driving (Driving)

Because of the top-notch acceleration that comes along with an electric vehicle, the Silverado EV has a quick, responsive feel that gas-powered full-size trucks simply cannot compete with.

The Silverado EV feels more like a three-row SUV than a full-size pickup, making it much more accessible than some other electric trucks on the market.

An optional adaptive air suspension system gives you the responsive, customized ride you want from a bigger vehicle.

Safety Features: 4/5 stars

2025 Chevy Silverado EV Dashboard and Seats (Safety)

The standard safety features of the 2025 Silverado EV include automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist.

An adaptive cruise control feature can be added and this comes with GM’s Super Cruise driver assistance technology on the LT and RST trims.

The Silverado EV hadn't been tested by the NHTSA or the IIHS at the time of writing.

Value: 5/5 stars

2025 Chevy Silverado EV Front (Value)

With a starting price of $57,095, the Silverado EV is good value for a new electric pickup, even at the most basic level.

If you're looking for a capable truck that eliminates the need for trips to the gas station, the savings you can get with the Silverado EV will make it well worth it. The base Work Truck trim with a Max Range battery gets you nearly 500 miles of range, which adds to its value.

While you'll have to spend quite a bit more to get the loaded RST trim, it could be worth it for extras such as leather upholstery, a multi-flex midgate, and multi-flex tailgate that make loading and unloading a payload incredibly easy.

Tech Features: 3/5 stars

2025 Chevy Silverado EV Intotainment (Tech)

As with many modern electric vehicles, the Silverado EV comes with a wide range of tech features, such as semi-autonomous driving and a configurable interior display.

While Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available with the base WT trim, they're not included with the higher-end RST and LT trims, and native navigation is the only option.

The base WT trim comes with an 11-inch touchscreen infotainment system and an eight-inch digital gauge display, but this can be upgraded to a 17.7-inch touchscreen and 11-inch gauge display in the higher trims.

Practicality: 5/5 stars

2025 Chevy Silverado EV Trunk (Practicality)

The 2025 Silverado EV is designed to be as useful as possible. With plenty of range in nearly every iteration, and practical touches such as a multi-flex gate, there's almost nothing this pickup can’t handle.

The adaptive air suspension even allows for some off-road capability, and if you opt for the larger 24-inch wheels, you can rest easy on all kinds of terrain.

Styling & Design: 5/5 stars

2025 Chevy Silverado EV Front Right Side (Styling)

The exterior of the 2025 Silverado EV is both rugged and modern with a short bed and a stout, sporty stance.

The front fascia is huge and aggressive, and there are lots of available styling options, such as Carbon Flash Metallic aluminum wheels and blackwall tires. Inside, the cabin is well appointed, even if the WT trim is deliberately spartan.

Fuel Efficiency: 5/5 stars

2025 Chevy Silverado EV Speedmeter (Efficiency)

The new, wide variety of available battery sizes make the 2025 Silverado EV an excellent choice for anyone who wants to save money on gas without sacrificing range.

With GM’s Ultium technology, the batteries in the Silverado EV can get up to 205 kWh.

While the EPA hadn't given an estimation for the truck’s MPGe rating at the time of writing, Chevy’s figures are 74 city, 61 highway, and 68 combined.
