Vehicle Type: Electric SUV
Price Range: $80,000 - $97,000
Powertrain: The 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV is an all-electric vehicle with three powertrain options.
The base EQE 350+ version has a single electric motor with rear-wheel drive putting out 288 horsepower.
The EQE 350 4Matic SUV all-wheel drive version adds a second motor to drive the front wheels.
This AWD powertrain puts out the same horsepower but improves traction and handling.
The more powerful EQE 500 4Matic SUV bumps the horsepower to 402.
What’s New for 2024?
2023 was the first model year for the EQE SUV and, in 2024, the company has only made subtle improvements. The biggest is an adjustment of the braking system, which improves the responsiveness and feel of the brakes and produces more energy for the regenerative braking system. If you opt for the all-wheel drive version, the 2024 models add the option to turn off the front motor to improve range. The heating system has also been replaced with a much more efficient heat pump, which may also improve the range.
What’s Good?
- The EQE SUV’s interior is as luxurious as you would expect from Mercedes-Benz, with many of the futuristic touches that modern EVs are known for.
- With a range of 253 miles, 269 miles, or 279 miles, depending on the trim and configuration, the SUV is competitive with other vehicles in its category.
- While many of the models in the EQ series, such as the EQS SUV, have been notable for their odd body styles and aesthetics, the new EQE SUV has an understated look that should be more appealing to a wider range of drivers.
What’s Bad?
- The chassis of both the EQE SUV and the EQE Sedan are stiff and don’t have the comfortable ride quality for which the automaker is known.
- There is much less cargo space than other SUVs of a similar size, especially the non-electric models.
- Mercedes has equipped the EQE SUV with artificial acceleration noises, which sound unrealistic and are more of a distraction than a proper simulation.
Would we buy one? Yes! While it seems like the EQE SUV was still getting its footing in 2023, the latest version is much more refined and many of the bugs seem to have been worked out.

Overview:
The Mercedes-EQ series of electric vehicles represents a new era for the automaker. With the discontinuation of the brand’s plug-in hybrids coming in 2025, all-electric is where Mercedes is placing its future alongside competitors such as the BMW iX and Audi Q4 e-tron. This is especially apparent with the EQE SUV, which takes all the styling and comfort that the company is known for and applies it to an efficient, all-electric package. Built to compete with EV innovators such as Tesla, the EQE SUV is solid performer with a unique style as eye-catching as it is efficient.
The EV SUV market is becoming more competitive every year and the EQE SUV is Mercedes’s attempt to put its name in the running for the best. While some of the automaker’s chief competitors – BMW, Audi, and Jaguar – have comparable vehicles, such as the iX, e-tron, and I-Pace, the EQE SUV offers everything that Mercedes does best. Its relatively understated styling and top-notch interior make it just as competitive within this new breed of EVs as its ICE vehicles have been.
There is a choice of three different powertrains with the 2024 EQE SUV, including a single-motor version putting out 288 horsepower through the rear wheels, a dual-motor version putting out the same power through an AWD configuration, and another AWD dual-motor setup tuned for 402 horsepower. There is also a separate AMG EQE SUV, which puts out a maximum of 678 horsepower with 738 lb-ft of torque. The lower-tier motors have a 0-60mph time of 5.6 seconds, but if you opt for the boosted version, that falls to 4 seconds. Optional air suspension and rear-axle steering make the handling responsive for a large SUV.
Whenever electric vehicles are discussed, range is going to be an important topic. While the 2024 EQE SUV is still too new to have official range ratings from the EPA, Mercedes has stated that the single-motor version has a 279-mile range, the AWD middle tier has a 253-mile range, and the high-end dual-motor boosted version will cover 269 miles on a single charge. Mercedes also says that, with a DC fast-charging station, the EQE SUV’s 90.6-kWh battery pack has a charging time of 32 minutes.
The interior of the 2024 EQE SUV is modern and minimalist, with a focus on function and passenger space. There is plenty of room for taller people in the front and rear seats, even though there is no three-row option. The base model comes with faux leather but genuine Nappa leather can be added with some of the higher levels, such as the Pinnacle trim. Ambient lighting is placed throughout and, if you want to spend a little more, top-end features such as four-zone climate control, an air purifier, and massaging front seats are available.
The tech included with the EQE SUV is as advanced as you would expect from such a well-regarded luxury automaker. The touchscreen infotainment system comes with a standard 12.8-inch screen, running the MBUX interface with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. All models also come with a wireless smartphone charger and a Burmester stereo system with Dolby Atmos. You can also add a head-up display that projects directions onto the windshield in front of the driver.
Standard safety and driver assistance features include automated emergency braking and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist. Every version of the EQE SUV also receives a backup camera, cross-traffic alert, ABS, a tire pressure monitor, stability control, and traction control. If you want to pay more for extra safety features, you can add equipment such as adaptive cruise control with lane centering and a blind-spot monitor. If you choose the Exclusive or Pinnacle trims, you also get the Driver Assistance Package. This includes extra safety and assistance features, such as a surround-view camera, Parktronic with active park assist, an attention monitor, active steering assistance, and collision avoidance alerts.
The EQE SUV has not been rated by a safety agency in the United States for either of its two model years. High-end luxury vehicles are rarely rated by the NHTSA or the IIHS. Even though they are required to have been tested, the results are not required to be public. However, it did receive five-star crash test ratings from both the ANCAP in Australia and Euro NCAP in Europe.
Overall Score: 4/5 stars
Driving Experience: 4/5 stars
The EQE SUV's long wheelbase and steel springs make for a fairly stiff ride but responsive handling.
Go for the optional air suspension and the steering gets a little lighter, while the ground clearance is raised by an inch for a softer ride.
The rear-axle steering system option renders it even more responsive as the small, fine movements translate into better handling.
If you are used to driving EVs with one foot, the EQE SUV can be switched into Strong Recuperation mode, which allows for one-pedal driving.
Safety Features: 3/5 stars
The Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV is equipped with standard safety features including automatic braking and lane-keeping assist.
If you want the benefit of some more advanced features, go for the Driver Assistance package, which includes features such as adaptive cruise control, emergency stop assist, lane change assist, and blind spot monitoring.
There's also the Driver Assistance Package PLUS, which adds Active Stop-and-Go Assist to help with automated driving in heavy traffic.
Value: 4/5 stars
With an estimated price range between $80,000 and $97,000, the EQE SUV is not cheap but it does come with a wide range of features and it's well specified.
The BMW iX has a slightly higher price point and can creep into six figures range with enough options, but the Audi Q4 e-tron starts at $50,995, which puts the EQE SUV in the middle-top range.
While you can expect to pay a premium for the EQE SUV, the savings over time that come with an EV can be help to make up for the extra money spent.
Even with a relatively high MSRP, the EQE SUV comes with the craftsmanship and commitment to luxury you'd expect from Mercedes as well as high-end features such as the Burmester stereo and heated front seats.
Tech Features: 5/5 stars
While the EQE SUV does not come cheap, it does include a wide variety of standard tech features.
Every EQE SUV has a 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen running the MBUX system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, voice command capability, and a wireless charging pad.
There is another 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster that is fully customizable and located behind the steering wheel.
An available head-up display is also customizable and can be configured with the navigation system to project directions onto the windshield in front of the driver.
Practicality: 3/5 stars
Space and practicality is part of the appeal of SUVs, but the EQE SUV has a comparatively low 18.4 cubic feet of cargo space and 59.2 cubic feet with the seats folded down.
While a towing hitch can be attached to the EQE SUV, the towing capacity is only 750 kg or about 1,600 pounds total, which may not be enough for some larger loads.
Despite the smaller cargo space, many of the tech features are designed with ease of use and practicality in mind, such as the wireless charging pad and available head-up display navigation.
Styling & Design: 4/5 stars
When Mercedes’ EQ line came out, many critics took issue with the aerodynamic, egg-like exterior design, but it was improved for 2024 with some sharper lines and a cleaner front end.
The interior is incredibly well designed, with a minimalist, contemporary feel and a commitment to usability, especially for the driver.
The low-profile, wide-track stance of the EQE SUV gives it an almost sporty look, which is a nice departure from the traditional SUV pack.
Fuel Efficiency: 5/5 stars
Used correctly, the EQE SUV can save you thousands of dollars on fuel over the years, even with extra costs such a fast-charging station subscription.
The EPA has not released the stats for fuel economy on the single-motor EGE 350+ or the EQE 500 yet.
The 2024 EQ E350 4Matic is currently rated at 82 MPGe city and 79 MPGe highway.
