If you can't handle a lot of traffic in peak hours and slow moving highway roads then this city isn't for you. Avoid weekend traffic in the mornings when it is warm due to the beach traffic both towards and away from the city. There's no real trick to driving in Tom's River other than drive safely and be cautious as you would in any other city. This area is urban enough that if you're only used to driving in rural areas it may be a bit nerve racking. However it is not so urban that it requires knowledge of downtown city driving.

I have never purchased a car in this city, so I don't have specific advice for the area. Search online listings to see what the going rate is on whatever vehicle it is you are looking to acquire. In this day and age it is easy to see what a going rate is in any particular area.

Every time I've had to drive to this city it has been for a good occasion. Either something I was booked for, or the location of our fantasy football draft party. Both options are always enjoyable times, so I'm typically in a great mood to and from my location when I am in this city. One time after a music gig, I was leaving Tom's River and wasn't sure where I could get something to eat on the way back. I found the White Castle on route 37 just by sheer luck as it had been one of my earlier times in the city and was ecstatic. I know that may sound like a silly memory but it is, for some reason, one of my stronger memories regarding this locale and driving.

Route 37. Its central to everywhere I have to be in the city without being as industrious as Route 9. When I'm in this area it's almost always later in the day so having things open is essential to me. This road has a variety of 24 hour services regarding food and gas. I enjoy the pace of this road. I may be alone on this. I'm not a big fan of driving fast and not stopping frequently. I enjoy the medium size highway roads like this one that get you to and from highways or residential areas. They are very relaxing to drive on.

As a inhabitant of my city, I would strongly recommend that drivers pay attention to pedestrians, especially during the summer months. People are often eager to get to the beach or tired of driving in circles looking for parking spots so they become aggressive and rude drivers. They often run by pedestrians in cross walks, not caring that the pedestrian has the right away and putting both driver and pedestrian in danger. Plus, most people during the summer months are tourists so they do not a community mentality. They aren´t afraid to be rude and offensive to pedestrians and swerve past them in crosswalks.

My Chrysler Le Baron is wonderful in the summer months and quite a joy. But, living in NJ, one must remember that NJ is cold. My car is very impractical during the winter months, especially when we get covered by tons of snow. There is a town Lakewood that has a street a mile long with dealership after dealership. There one can go to get a good deal as there is heavy competition, especially on pre-owned vehicles. However, I must remind you to choose a car that will be a joy to drive in both winter and summer.

I have a Chrysler Le Baron which is the perfect car for the beach town that I live in NJ. One of my favorite memories, is putting the top down and driving on Ocean Ave. It is a very popular street that runs parallel to the boardwalk that is right next to the ocean. When the sun is just about to set, right around twilight, is a magical time to be out and about. During the summer months, people are either leaving the beach after a long day of sunbathing and hanging out with family and/or friends or people are just coming out to enjoy then nightlife on the boardwalk. Driving down this street, allows one to partake in the festive environment, watching people excitedly interact with each other, happy to just be arriving at the boardwalk or chatting up the great day they had.

Arnold Ave. Arnold Ave is a street that offers so much. When one crosses the bridge and enters into the beach towns of central jersey, Arnold Ave is one of the most traveled streets of the summer. Just off the bridge, most people have to decide what to do on Arnold Ave. By taking a left on Arnold Ave, the traveler gets to embark on the exciting and overwhelming journey of heading right to the ocean and looking for parking. By taking a right, the traveler gets to enjoy a picturesque town that has an old, small-town feel. People are encourage to shop for unique, rare items as each store is a small business. The only chain stores belong to a coffee shop and the supermarket.
