Decent car, but better can be found.
The car has great interior space. I appreciated the large trunk area; it was large enough to fit crates used in my classroom. The size of the car is a great mid-size SUV; it is not too long to parallel park with ease, and it is not cramped. The interior did not feel small, like a car, but felt spacious. There was plenty of room for car seats, and the latches in the seats were easily accessible. Sometimes the hooks are so buried in the seat it makes hooking in a car seat very difficult, but the Escape was very child friendly in built. Unfortunately, I purchased this car used, and it had issues often. The engine leaked oil, and the gaskets had to be sealed. The battery died multiple times before the expiration of the battery. Every time I filled up the pump, it would click off erroneously every few gallons due to faulty gas lines (which I had checked and replaced to no avail). The 4-cylinder engine did not feel like it was constantly struggling, which is not common for an SUV, although it did not have the best acceleration. The base model was lacking in many features other similar makes offered, like Bluetooth capabilities and USB ports. Additionally, the headlights were not automatic.

2008 Ford Escape: not quite flawless.
Overall, I love my Ford Escape, though there were a few things that Ford could have done differently to make this car better. First, the power steering is not hydraulic, it's electronic. Shortly after purchasing the car (used), the power steering went out. Since it was electronic it was not a quick or inexpensive fix. My vehicle was in the shop over two weeks to replace a part totaling over $400.00 before labor. 2008 is apparently the first year the power steering was like this in the Ford Escape. My Ford Escape indicates important information about my vehicle which is a very helpful feature. Recently, it said low tire pressure. Now this is a very, very minor issue, but it would be nice if it told me which tire was low. Obviously it has the sensors to detect low tire pressure, but it won't tell me which tire. Not a big deal, it would just be helpful. Overall I love my Ford Escape. It handles very well, it is a reliable vehicle, and has features that I love which are an added benefit. The back cargo area is large enough to fit a side-by-side double stroller which is important to me. I'm considering the possibility of needing a new vehicle unfortunately due to my family growing, but I really don't want to get rid of my Ford Escape because I love it so much!
