Stellantis may not sound familiar but we bet its family of brands will. The company was formed in 2021 as a result of a merger between the French automobile group Peugeot and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. Consequently, automakers like Fiat, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, RAM, and Maserati all fall under the Stellantis umbrella.

The Uconnect 5 infotainment system also falls under their umbrella and is consistently cited as being one of the best car infotainment systems on the market. The primary reason for this is that it is user-friendly. It offers steering wheel audio controls on the rear of the steering wheel, redundant volume and HVAC controls, and easy-to-navigate menu items.

Wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, Amazon Alexa “Car to Home,” and dual device Bluetooth compatibility highlight some of the system’s best features. It even allows users to customize and save up to five separate profiles so that they can access their own preferences and shortcuts when driving.

In addition to minimal lag and quick input responsiveness, the Uconnect 5 system utilizes Tom Tom’s navigation services to improve your overall driving experience. For even more functionality, you can utilize the Uconnect app on your phone, allowing you to do things like lock and unlock your vehicle and start it remotely.

If you want to experience what Uconnect 5 has to offer, you can find it in models like the RAM 1500, Jeep Gladiator, and Chrysler Pacifica minivan. Alfa Romeo and Maserati vehicles do not yet have the Uconnect system integrated, but you should be able to see it appear there too in the coming model years.

Mercedes-Benz sets the luxury brand bar when it comes to high-tech car infotainment systems. The Mercedes-Benz User Experience – MBUX – system boasts stunning graphics, robust voice control functionality, and the ability to customize your own personal user experience by choosing how it looks and feels. It even has built-in AI functionality to learn and predict how you operate, remembering things like your radio preferences and phone numbers.

Touch controls via the steering wheel or a center console touchpad allow you to accomplish necessary tasks while driving, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto add an additional layer of functionality. Even the system’s lack of any physical knobs and buttons, a gripe common with some Honda and Volkswagen systems, is reduced by its stellar overall functionality.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class, EQS SUV, and EQS sedan showcase the MBUX system the best, but it is available across most of the lineup. The S-Class features a 12.8-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and wireless device charging for added good measure.

The EQS Sedan and SUV both come standard with the same infotainment setup as the S-Class, but you can upgrade the MBUX system to what Mercedes-Benz calls their Hyperscreen. It encompasses a 17.7-inch central touchscreen, a 12.3-inch driver’s side digital gauge cluster, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen on the passenger side. All three of these screens are essentially combined into a singular 56-inch-wide infotainment display.

### 3. Kia Connect/Hyundai Bluelink

Kia Connect, formerly called UVO, and Hyundai Bluelink are infotainment systems found in two different automakers’ vehicles, but they are nearly identical in terms of features and functionality. The Hyundai Motor Company owns 33.88% of Kia, so it makes sense that their vehicles share more than just powertrain components.

The Connect and Bluelink systems land a spot on this list for the same primary reason that Stellantis’ Uconnect 5 system does. It is one of the most responsive, intuitive, and user-friendly systems on the market. It does not offer as many high-tech features as the MBUX system, but it is more than adequate for anybody looking to buy a new Kia or Hyundai model.

The system is best showcased in both the Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade. Both models feature a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth, and navigation, but surprisingly, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not yet standard with either system. Both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, but you will have to connect the “old-fashioned” way.

A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is also available on both models with the Telluride featuring a panoramic infotainment screen that spans from the driver’s side to the middle of the dashboard.

Smartphone apps are available for both systems and add capabilities like remote start, diagnostic alerts, maintenance reminders, a “find my car” feature, and even over-the-air update capability.

Tesla is known for its cutting-edge, powerful, and long-range EVs. Its emphasis on technology, including its models’ well-known semi-autonomous driving capabilities, has helped propel the way forward for EVs. Other manufacturers are following closely behind with their own EVs packed with their own technology features.

Tesla models rely completely on their infotainment systems to control nearly every aspect of the vehicle through the power of touch. With no gauges or physical buttons, Tesla interiors feel minimalistic and airy, but this also necessitates that the infotainment system be robust enough to control more things than it would on a normal vehicle.

It can do things that most other vehicle infotainment systems can like control the HVAC system, tune the radio, display maps, and display other vehicle information. The Model 3 and Model Y even have 15-inch touchscreens, about the same size as a fairly large touchscreen in some non-Tesla vehicles now. It is the extra things that the infotainment system controls that make it good, or at least interesting.

Tesla buyers can expect to be able to play video games, utilize several different types of streaming services, change the sound of the horn, censor explicit music lyrics via the Tesla music app, and even activate dog mode, allowing your pet to be kept in the climate controlled Tesla of your choosing with a background on the infotainment screen explaining to people what is happening.

Each Tesla model is essentially a fully functional laptop on wheels with its insane infotainment system functionality. Over-the-air updates are the means by which the infotainment system gets a boost, but because of its sheer power over the vehicle in which it lives, it may not come as a surprise that Tesla has been the subject of some notable issues and recalls surrounding its infotainment systems. Also, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not available, which is a deal-breaker for some.

### 5. BMW iDrive 8

BMW’s iDrive 8 infotainment system is its answer to Mercedes-Benz’ MBUX infotainment system. Its original version is often cited as the first true in-car infotainment system that utilized a center console rotary knob to control its functions. Today, that knob still serves as a redundancy to the touch inputs and steering wheel controls that can also be used with the system.

Though it can be found on nearly every current BMW model, iDrive 8 was first introduced in the all-electric i4. The system is displayed across a curved screen with two separate sections. A 14.9-inch center touchscreen acts as the main infotainment screen while a second 12.3-inch instrument cluster stretches to the place you might expect, behind the steering wheel.

It features wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, navigation, Bluetooth, over-the-air update capability, and voice command functionality. BMW even gives you a physical volume knob for the radio located underneath the central air vents. The main highlight of the system is its graphics, though. They are intense and beautiful with quick and crisp responsiveness.

The main downfall of iDrive 8 is that it is much more complicated than simpler systems like Uconnect 5 and Kia Connect as some basic controls are two or three touches deep. Like most other things, a few trips through the system should give you the hands-on training you need to operate it confidently. BMW is planning to release iDrive 9 in the coming months as it phases out iDrive 8 going forward.

### 6. Ford SYNC 4

We travel from a rather complicated infotainment system in BMW’s iDrive 8 to a much more user-friendly system with Ford’s SYNC 4 system. It has solidified itself as a favorite in the industry, and it draws many similarities to other systems we have already mentioned.

You can add up to three customizable profiles to tailor your user and driver experience to your liking, it features over-the-air update functionality, and the system uses AI to pick up on driving habits. The bottom of the screen even contains a physical volume knob for non-touchscreen redundancy and further ease of use.

SYNC 4 features other fan favorites like navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hotspot, enhanced voice recognition with voice command capability, and your vehicle’s owner’s manual built right in.

There are currently two versions of Ford’s infotainment system. Ford SYNC 4 is found in most new vehicles like the Ford F-150, Ford Expedition, Ford Edge, and Ford Bronco. You can even find SYNC 4 in Lincoln models like the Navigator.

Ford SYNC 4A is the same infotainment system but is tailored for larger screen applications found in the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck. These vehicles utilize a 15.5-inch vertical touchscreen, but nearly all of the same features from the regular SYNC 4 system are also used in SYNC4A.

### 7. Toyota Multimedia System

The Toyota Multimedia System is much like the cars from which it comes. It offers relatively few extras with everything you need and nothing that you do not. Despite its lack of pizzazz compared to some of the more feature-rich and robust infotainment systems on this list, it features sharp graphics, responsive loading times, and a user-friendly interface.

It comes standard with wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, voice command capability, and over-the-air update capability. Navigation is extra on most models, but that too is simple to use. The system functions almost exactly like your favorite smartphone with many of the same touchscreen input functionality, like swiping and pinching to zoom.

You can find this system in most 2023 Toyota models from the Tundra to the Corolla. The largest screens come in the Tundra and the Sequoia, both of which feature 14-inch touchscreens if you forgo the base models. Smaller cars like the Prius and RAV4 feature 12.3-inch touchscreens if you opt for them. Most base models come with 8-inch infotainment screens.

### 8. Audi MMI

To compete with other top luxury brands on the infotainment front, Audi offers their own robust infotainment system with many similar features to those found in Mercedes-Benz and BMW models. They call their system MMI, or Multi Media Interface, and they take a slightly different approach to infotainment than the other two premier German automakers.

Audi’s MMI system is showcased throughout its lineup in vehicles like the A8, Q8, and e-tron. Instead of using a giant, central touchscreen that houses both entertainment and HVAC features, Audi splits the displays into a top and bottom touchscreen.

The top screen is a 10.1-inch touchscreen and is responsible for typical entertainment features like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, navigation, Bluetooth, and audio controls. The bottom 8.6-inch touchscreen is responsible for the climate controls, driver and passenger convenience features, and safety features. You can even use the bottom screen to handwrite words and letters that the MMI system will translate into commands.

Like several other systems on our list, the MMI system allows for up to seven different driver profiles to customize the infotainment’s user experience. You can also connect up to two Bluetooth devices and use the system just like you would your regular smartphone. A reconfigurable interface adds even more elements to the system.

Lastly, Audi’s virtual cockpit, the driver’s side instrumentation cluster, rounds out the digital screens on the interior of each Audi equipped with the MMI system. It is a 12.3-inch screen that is also configurable to your liking.

### 9. Cadillac CUE

Cadillac took a page out of BMW’s book with their Cadillac User Experience system found in their full-size flagship SUV, the Escalade. It uses a full OLED dashboard comprised of three screens for a total of 38 inches of dashboard space.

The smallest 7.2-inch digital control panel is to the left of the driver and instrument cluster. A 14.2-inch digital instrument cluster functions as the main driver information center and is customizable and can even display a map from the navigation to allow the driver to stay more focused on the road.

The main 16.9-inch screen houses all the rest of the infotainment features. It functions similarly to how an iPad or large smartphone would with customizable menus. It features both a night vision system and an augmented reality view by utilizing the front camera of the vehicle to show you what is ahead.

Wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, wireless device charging, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a 19-speaker audio system are all integrated into the infotainment with the option to upgrade the audio system to a 36-speaker AKG audio system. You can also choose to add a rear-seat entertainment system that comes with dual 12.6-inch touchscreens if you are willing to spend the extra to get it.

Unlike the infotainment systems General Motors puts in some of its other vehicles, the Escalade does not feature any readily accessible physical knobs or buttons to control its system. There are steering wheel controls and a center dial with which you can control volume and other aspects of the system, but this makes everything just a little harder to use at the end of the day.

Cadillac’s system is not the most intuitive on the market, but it will certainly win fans for its responsiveness, robustness, and clean graphics.

### 10. Mazda Connect

Mazda takes a unique approach to its infotainment system, just like it does with building each new vehicle. Most models like the Mazda3, CX-5, and CX-9 feature an infotainment display that forgoes touchscreen capability, replacing that functionality with a rotary knob located near the gear shift lever in the center console.

The impressive part about this is that the system remains easily laid out for intuitive menu navigation, even without needing the typical touch inputs required to operate other systems. The smallest vehicles feature a crisp, 8.8-inch display, while larger crossovers come with a standard 10.25-inch display.

Though wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not yet available in most models, Mazda Connect still comes with the wired versions as standard. Additional features include voice command functionality and Bluetooth. A Wi-Fi hotspot and wireless device charging come standard on larger crossovers, and buyers can throw in a 7-inch digital instrument display on high-end models.

The all-new 2024 Mazda CX-90 shows off Mazda Connect the best, though. It comes with the option to equip both wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto as well as a 12.3-inch touchscreen. Even though these infotainment features are not standard, they showcase the extra capabilities of Mazda Connect absent in the rest of the lineup, at least for now.

Infotainment systems are the new measure of a vehicle's quality. They have become incredibly advanced in a short time, and it is important to know what the best ones are.
