Volkswagen Jetta American Canyon, CA OWNER RATINGS & REVIEWS

Great commuter car with a sporty feel
The Volkswagen brand has always interested me since my friends and family have owned these cars, and since I've seen firsthand how Volkswagens are manufactured. The Jetta interested me because it looked cute, professional enough, and in my opinion, drove better than its comparable (the Chevy Cruise).
After buying the car, I remained mostly happy with it. It has vinyl seats, the interior does not look cheep, and the car drives really well. The 37 miles-per-gallon is a big plus. Some complaints I've had against the car are the Diesel scandal (since I have the TDi, this may increasingly be an issue for me). Additionally, due to very poor communication and a mistake front the dealership, my transmission was not cared for and required a replacement in 2 years. The Bluetooth unexpectedly died in 1-1/2 years. All in all, the car is a good one, especially when it's new. I will probably sell it in the next year because I do not want to deal with the stereotypically expensive repairs of a middle-aged or older German car.

Affordable and reliable
This car has been very reliable and has a decent amount of power for its size. It has relatively fast pick-up, so I am not stuck trying to get going at a stop light. It has not needed a lot of expensive repairs. So far the engine has needed only regular, factory-recommended maintenance. Although it is a small car, it has good cargo space. The back seats fold down to make more room for large items. I can go to Home Depot and come home with 2x4s in the trunk, thanks to a little door that opens into the passenger space. I can go to the beach and be driving a car that's small enough to fit into hard-to-find parking spaces, yet still carry beach chairs, an umbrella, and an ice chest. The quality is pretty good, as shown in the reliability. Some aesthetic details could have been made to be more durable. The headliner began to sag badly and needed repairing. Somewhere there is a seal that is leaking, and that allows water into the passenger compartment, but no repairperson has been able to find the leak.
