Buy this car.
I love my Passat, it runs and drives great, I can fix almost anything on it with a Chilton's manual. It and many Euro-based cars can run for hundreds of thousands of miles, it's amazing. I wouldn't buy any newer than 99, because the computer system becomes to involved. Gas mileage is decent and oil changes are easy and can be done at six thousand miles. Most other work can be done on the car personally and with plenty of forum's from the internet and You tube's help.

We had looked for a particular type of car for more than six months. We wanted a slightly used, VW Passat, manual. We had zero luck, until we went to Springfield Imports. They didn't have one in stock, but they called us a few weeks later and said they had snagged one for us! In the meantime, of course, they tried to get us into a new car, and we almost bought one, then they found the one we were looking for. I thought it was great that they helped us and stayed true to what they knew we really wanted!
