It is important to know what road goes where as North/South/East/West descriptions are not on most signs. Use the mountains as a landmark, the bigger mountains with most consistent visible snowpack are to the south.

They should avoid 395 freeway.

A lot of people I know have bought cars that break down from Craigslist. Stay away form it!

My favorite driving memory in this area is driving back from school during the day time and having the freeway be almost completely empty. I think that we do not really get any traffic unless there is some construction.

I80 highway. This is my favorite place to drive because it is the less travelled freeway. Not that many people use it so it is easy to get on and off. There is also no construction on the parts I drive.
