2018 GMC Terrain - the best yet
For the most part, I love my Terrain. It's a base vehicle, and I do miss my heated seats after having a 2016 GMC Terrain SLE-2, but it ended up not being a huge deal at all. The turbo seems to help the car heat up pretty fast in the winter, and it has a bit more pickup than my last regular four cylinder. I am a huge baby when it comes to driving in the snow...AKA I'm absolutely terrified. I won't drive in the snow without 4WD or AWD. The AWD on this Terrain made me feel more safe in otherwise extremely anxious situations. There is a ton of room in this car, although I prefer the room in the previous model as I had a 2016 GMC Terrain SLE-2 AWD before this, and it had more trunk space. The rear seats fold flat, 60/40, and provide a ton of trunk space if you do not have a car full of passengers. In the 2016 model, the seats were so comfortable, but I hated the mesh material as it would leave imprints on my legs for quite some time after sitting on it. They changed the 2018 to (in my opinion) low-quality fabric and the seats are awful and so uncomfortable for long drives. A 3-4 hour drive in this 2018 model leaves me sore and begging to get out of the car. The physical sleekness of the 2018 is much improved and is a bit less boxy and more sporty. As for gas mileage, it's pretty good but the size of the tank is significantly smaller than my last Terrain. Overall, I love my car, and I've had it for 1.5 years now, and will be in it for another 1.5 years or so. I am looking forward to the end of my lease to get into something different, possibly a truck or bigger SUV (personal preference) but as for the size of my family and my hauling needs, the 2018 GMC Terrain SLE-1 AWD is perfect for me and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in it so far.

Smooth and quiet
It's very smooth and quiet. I live in the mountains of Colorado, and it snows nine months of the year. My Terrain has AWD, and I have never slipped or slid. Handles extremely well. I love the leather seats and Apple Car Play.

2018 GMC Terrain ReportCard Review

Autolist ReportCard Score: 96/100

Pros:

  • Comfortable and smooth ride
  • Spacious interior
  • Great handling
  • Responsive and intuitive infortainment

Cons:

  • No adaptive cruise control
  • Clunky transmission
  • Lack of power in the base engine
  • Down on headroom

Review Summary:

The 2018 GMC Terrain is redesigned with a spacious interior and comfortable seating that fits the whole family.

It has a smaller exterior and a more traditional design than the previous model but the suspension has been tuned for a smooth and refined drive.

The turbo-diesel 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and six-speed automatic transmission sets this SUV apart from competitors.
