Scion XB - best car ever
Scion XB is made by its parent company, Toyota. It is a Toyota engine. One thing I have noticed about Toyota engines is that as long as you stick to the maintenance schedules, your car will run forever. I have owned the car for 11 years now and not had a single problem. The mileage is great. On average, I'm getting 38 mpg in city and around 40 mpg on the highway. It is a 4 cylinder, so it isn't going to win any speed competitions but it has enough get up and go to navigate steep roads in the mountains with no problem.
The Scion XB doesn't look like every other car out there. So on top of having a reliable vehicle, you have a vehicle that you can spot within seconds in any parking lot. I can't tell you how many times I've forgotten where I parked and just looked for the box on wheels. It looks like this little tiny car. You can fit it in any compact parking space with room to spare. It is huge inside! It seats 5 comfortably. And not just 5 small 5 foot tall people. My father is 6ft tall and even with the front seat all the way back, when he sits in the back seat he knees don't touch.

Good Entry-Level Vehicle
The 2005 Scion xB is a front-wheel drive "thing" alternatively classified as a hatchback, subcompact, or station wagon - it is not quite any of these things (though it does qualify as subcompact, the amount of interior room is much greater than any other subcompact). It features a very distinctive, boxy appearance.

Fantastic car even though a bit uncomfortable
I love this car so much I bought two of them. It's stylish and fun to drive. The acceleration is phenomenal for just having a 4 cylinder. This is probably helped by the fact that it only has a 4 speed transmission. With fewer gears to shift through it gets up and goes. The downside of this setup is that the gas mileage isn't all that great. If the car had a 5 or 6 speed transmission, the gas mileage might have been better since the car always seems to be running on high RPM's. Mechanically sound, though. I've had no problems in six years of ownership and the resale value is fantastic. The absolute biggest problem with this car is that the front seats are the most hideously uncomfortable thing ever made. They could have chiseled them from solid granite and had them be more comfortable.
