2002 Dodge Caravan OWNER RATINGS & REVIEWS
Hilo, Hawaii
A lousy beater.
The Dodge Caravan may have been good at one time bit this is no longer the case. I wish I had bought a different vehicle all together. I can not stress how much I do not like this vehicle. I wish I could shoot it off a cliff and watch it burn in a large ball off flames as it tumbles down a large cliff and then explodes in a giant fireball. The interior of the car was a complete disaster. I would like to thank the previous owners for taking almost zero care of the interior. It is a flaming pile of garbage. Everything in the van has broke or is braking as I have used this vehicle. I am scared to drive the vehicle anywhere for fear of it breaking down. It sounds like a rolling disaster waiting to happen. Everything in the vehicle seems to be laid out in a terrible fashion. When I bought the vehicle I thought it would be good to haul around all of my tools and cleaning supplies. Soon after I bought it the sliding door started to not wanting to open. After I figured out to open it I noticed there was so much rust that the door was almost impossible to open.

Great Van
This van was one of the best vans I have ever had. I have kids and I trusted this van with my life. It has antilock doors, air bags all the way around. I had a crash with my kids in the vehicle and they only got scratches from the accident. The van was so big I was able to take out the seats and move a full size couch when I was moving. Great gas mileage 35 city miles. I would only fill it up twice a month and still have gas at the end of the month. Engine was awesome it was very powerful. Depend car when going on long trips. It never broke down. The cons are the air conditioner, and light fixtures. When you had the air conditioner on it would eat up the gas like no tomorrow. So I just kept it off and had the windows down. The light fixtures were horrible. I would go over a bump and it would cut in and out. The high beams were not bright at all.

Great Value Once Repaired
The 2002 Dodge Caravan has frequent challenges with its heater module and cluster panel. They communicate in such a way that it is difficult to tell whether the speedometer failure is caused by one or the other source. Repairs are costly, as mechanics say the parts are not considered more reliable than the original. I chose to have the instrument cluster re-welded by an expert and replace the heater module. Once the parts have been repaired/replaced, no further issues so far.
Currently, this Dodge has over 250,000 miles on it, and is running like a champ. I had the engine seals replaced, and it resolved a small oil leak. Steering is good, though I get nervous about being able to hear the gears working in the steering column when taking a sharp left turn at low speed.
The seats are very comfortable, and I enjoy being able to remove back benches in order to haul larger items. Fuel efficiency is pretty good for an older vehicle, up to 20 MPG on the highway. The caravan design also allows for great visibility all around while driving. I would rate this vehicle 3.5 out of 5 stars.
