Decent Car for the Price but Expensive to Repair
Car had a 1.8T engine, turbo was what I expected from a four cylinder car. As an older car, it started breaking down on me as it hovered around the 10 year mark. The timing belt/water pump was a hassle to change and it was a costly repair. VW, being German, means that the parts have to be "Imported" from Germany. Not quite sure how much the parts cost to manufacture but the labor (at the dealership) was expensive and the water pump (~10 hours) to repair ended up costing me an arm and a leg. Thank goodness the turbo never gave out on me while I drove it because that would have been around a grand to repair. The car was fuel efficient (4 cylinders) and the turbo did provide a little bit of kick when shifting the car into triptronic mode. I believe the suspension was giving out when I was selling the car (I was quoted around 2 thousands to fix the cars suspension) and I finally was fed up with paying money on a ten year old car that I just got rid of her. I think the dumbest thing that ever broke in the car was that the fuel gas cap refused to pop out one day. The internal locking mechanisms backfired and I couldn't pry it up to put in gas. Those were the good old days.

Great multiuse car for the average driver
The Jetta is a great quality car that will last a long time as long as you do regular maintenance on it. I like that it's on the smaller size, so it's easy to park and navigate even in small city lanes, but it still has ample room on the interior to comfortably use it as an every day commuter car, fit two friends in the back seat, and have plenty of room in the trunk to go shopping or run errands. The design is pretty straightforward and no frills, which is nice because I don't want a ton of fancy stuff that has to be maintained and cleaned, but it has everything you really need in a car. Performance-wise, it has good pick up, and has a lot of pep in it when you need to pass someone or merge lanes. Everything shifts pretty well, and I like that it is automatic. My friends have complimented me on the car, as they know it is a reliable, multipurpose car that is great for a daily driver for most needs. Overall, I enjoy using this car, even after 7 years of owning it. It is efficient and makes decent mileage, as I only have to fill it up once per week most weeks. The mileage hasn't decreased over time as dramatically as some other cars I have had either, so that is a plus. The electronic elements in the automatic windows have held up over time, however I have had multiple issues with the cooling system sensor in the on board computer as well as the mechanisms in the doors that control the locks.

Dislike this car very much!
This Volkswagen Jetta, while not being the first car I've driven, was the first car I've every owned myself. I absolutely hate it, plain and simple. It had very high miles when I got it (150,000) and is now at 191,00. The transmission slips and it stalls all the time. And no matter how many times the mechanic says "he fixed the problem with the transmission," the problem is still not fixed. The air conditioner does not work and hasn't worked since I got it. The interior is pretty nice but it smells like crayons! I have no idea how or why it smells like crayons but I can not get the smell out no matter what I try. Overall the car runs horrible, but I'm sure if it was taken care of properly from the start it would be a pretty nice little car.
