Of course one of the great features of the GEO Metro is it's fantastic gas mileage. For the first year that I owned the car I checked the mileage and I got 49 mpg, on all around driving. I had a job delivering legal papers (process server) and I drove about 150 miles per day, all over town, and into the suburbs as well. The car only had a little tiny three cylinder motor, but since it was fuel injected it had a lot of zip, combined with the 5 speed transmission. The LSI model that I had, had a nice cloth interior, not the plastic that the basic model had. I only paid $7100 for the car brand new, and I drove it for over 250,000 miles before I sold it.

Basically a tin coffin
When I first bought this car, I thought I would really like it. The car was sleek and somewhat sporty, and was a beautiful shade of teal. But after a week it was very obvious that this car was essentially a death trap. I noticed, when trying to repair one of the car door speakers that there was practically no padding between the trim and the door. Just a tiny thin layer of the same kind of foam you find in an egg carton. The steering wheel was gummy and anytime it got too humid or your hands were too wet, the finish would rub off onto your hands, whether through the steering wheel or through the gear shift. The engine performed okay, I had to get a new core for my alternator though so that really put a dent in the bank.

Let your car help with your budget.
The car is not very powerful, but it handles just fine. I think it goes fast enough. I really like small cars. If you like a small car, then this one is the best. You don't need to spend a lot of money on a hybrid when you can get a Geo Metro. If you're a better driver, you might get even better than 50 mph on the highway. It's really roomy, I can sleep in it on long road trips. The engine is smooth and not noisy.
