Happy Jeep Owner
Well I have been pretty pleased being a jeep grand cherokee owner for the past years and my jeep is still running strong. It has a little over 200,000 miles and has not needed in major or very costly repairs since I have owned my 1997 jeep grand cherokee. It goes through the snow without much effort or struggle and it gets me out of some sticky situations sometimes, such as when I get stuck on the mud I just put it in 4 wheel drive and gets unstuck out of the mud without much effort. I just wished that it would get better gas mileage though. It has enough cargo space to haul some thinks that would not fit I a car. I like also that it came with a trailer hitch, just in case I ever need to hook up a trailer. The interior doesn't look cheap and has comfortable seats. I usually feel safe driving it, because it's size, which provides some security and it is easy to drive to be kind of a large vehicle. All in all I would recommend to anyone who is looking to buy an suv to buy a jeep grand cherokee, because they last such a long time and are reliable vehicles.

Love this car
Let me start off by saying I am a Jeep guy and I will own nothing else anymore. My first was a 90 Jeep wrangler, then I got a 95 Cherokee Sport, and it got totaled I got a 98 Grand Cherokee. And when that 98 got hit I got this 97 Grand Cherokee. Both accidents I was in I would have been killed in any other car. I got my mom a Cherokee too and she ran the thing for 2 years with a bad oil pump and it still ran fine other than knocking really loud. She also over heated her's so bad the engine seized up and after it cooled off it started right back up.

Bad design
The 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee is a marvel of bad design. Numerous recalls have came from this design, and it covers a swath of items from drive train, to the air conditioning system, to interior problems such as faulty electronics. The Jeep is a true four wheel drive and does good in snow and off roading. It'll even go over curbs no problem. It is a unibody design which makes it lighter than other SUV's such as Ford who offer a body on a frame design as in their Excursion line. Gas mileage is typical of the SUV's from this time frame. Mine gets around 16 in the city, and 19 on the highway. It has enough room in the back to haul cargo such as chairs, or PVC pipe or camping equipment for three people. My Jeep has the 4.0 Liter, inline six cylinder engine and has over 200,000 miles on it. I haven't had many problems with it and many have said that these engines will go 300,000 miles with no serious problems. It rides well, and is big enough for bigger/taller persons to ride comfortably. With the towing package, you can easily tow things such as small trailers, cars, motorcycles with no problem. The 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee is a good vehicles, but it has a list of problems that seem to be universal to it alone.
