The 2004 Saturn Ion is overall a mechanical disaster. The engine is adequate at best. The lack of power leaves much to be desired. The limited ability to accelerate often makes merging more of a hassle than desired. The bumpers are made of plastic and at low temperatures shatter upon any impact. The ignition continually sticks making any trip an additional 5 minute journey.

Pretty Dependable Car
Overall, the Saturn Ion is a pretty dependable car. The car seats five adults comfortably (including the driver) and has a large trunk for carrying groceries or other items. The gas mileage is decent, and the car doesn't require much more work than your normal maintenance for a vehicle. To me, the biggest drawback is the battery being in the trunk, but I also live in a state where the winters can get very cold.

The car that gets you from A to B
This car is primarily from getting you from A to B. This is moderately comfortable... for those sitting in the front of the car. The car is compact and leaves little to no space in the back for additional passengers. The battery is located in the back of the car which is beneficial, as it is the only car I know of that has the battery in that location, so it's easy for others to jump you. The car was a four cylinder, so it was slow of course. The least satisfying aspect was the mileage. Over time the car became less and less efficient, only averaging around 15-20 mpg now at over 150,000 miles.
