HHR: good cars, annoying build.
I currently have a 2011 Chevy HHR that I bought used. It has been a good car and has run well, for the most part. It gets good gas mileage and doesn’t eat oil. It is roomy and comfortable for long rides. I have put the back seat and moved anything from entire rooms worth of boxes to large bulky items with relative ease. My main problem with the car has basically been sub-par parts. So far, I’ve had 3 interior door handles break. They are made out of pretty flimsy plastic. Then there is the fact that the drain tube tends to get slimed up and backs up. I don’t know if it is specifically an HHR issue, but it seemed pretty common. I created huge puddles in the passenger side and blew out my A/C fan motor. All of those things are relatively easy to replace, so they have not been huge problems, but it is annoying. The LED face on the dash has also gone partially out. I’m not sure what caused that; it may have been the water back up, but it has been slowly coming back on. One of the first things that irritated me though was the paint on the bumper. It’s possible that the car was in a wreck before. I wasn’t told and honestly didn’t check like I should have, but a few months after I bought it, I was driving in the rain pretty early in the morning. A large black dog ran out into the road and I hit it. It was raining pretty hard, and I wasn’t going fast. It ran off into the woods, so I kept on going. When I got to my mother in law’s to pick her up, I checked the bumper, and there was a big blue mark on it. I thought it was really weird and tried to rub it off, but the paint around it came off too, so I guess that was the primer. I thought it was strange that that event should cause the paint to come off like that.

My experience with my HHR
This car is fairly versatile due to the fact that it is similar style to an SUV, it is just smaller. We have been able to haul some things in the back, but it is not very wide so it is hard to haul wider items. When we travel it can fit our family of four, one or two suitcases and our 80lb dog, so it is roomy in that manner. It does have great gas mileage which is always a plus. It does not have very much storage in the console though which for me is not good. The cup holders in the center console also get in the way of the emergency break and vise versa. If I have a to go cup (like from a fast food restaurant) in the cup holder, in order to use the emergency break I have to pull the cup out of the holder, which of course is easy to do, but it is an unnecessary pain.

2011HHR review.
After more than 100,00 mikes I have had no major mechanical issues. I love the high roof, the additional room makes it more comfortable. The car has great pickup. I press the gas and it goes. The car has above average gas mileage. The turning radius of the car could be better, it is pretty wide. I love the room in the back I have to store groceries and items I have purchased. The back seats being able to be laid down gives me even more room, I work in Production for a sports team and the additional room helps move more stuff. The windshield is a little small, I’d like for that to have been bigger. The back seat is roomy and can fit three of my friends. The oil life of the car is above average to what I've owned in the past. I love the peacock blue collar. The retro style really makes the car stick out. The A/C in the car is really powerful and cools the car down quickly. The tires keep their air pressure, I’ve never had an issue with them. The brakes have lasted really well. I had to stop fast from hitting a deer a couple of months ago, and the car stopped immediately. The car has OnStar which has helped me make hands free calls and called for help when I was stranded. The headlights still are as bright the day I bought the car, which is a big plus at night.
