I like the miles/gallon efficiency. The handling and performance is average. I really dislike that the trunk is quite small, much smaller than every previous sedan I have owned. I dislike that the car sits lower to the ground than my previous sedans, and now that I'm in my late 50s this is becoming a problem. The car has sensors in each tire to show the air pressure in each, which I, at first thought was a really nice feature. But every time the tires are rotated, whether by my husband or at a repair shop, no one is able to reset the tire sensors, so what is shown as "right front tire" could be any one of the four tires. And about 2 years ago, one of the sensors went out. I found out that it will cost approximately 500 dollars to replace it, which I really find not worth it for one tire sensor. But now the "tire sensor warning light" is on constantly when I drive for the last two years. I have had a problem with the coolant leaking and have taken it to the dealer twice now, each time for more than 1000 dollars and the problem is "fixed" for a while only to recur again 6 months to a year later. Now, again, I'm having to frequently monitor and top off the coolant and have been holding off as long as possible taking it in yet a third time since I've owned it for this problem. The headlights need replaced on almost a yearly basis to have clear bright light.

Great car for long trips
My Malibu is one of the greatest cars I have ever owned. My husband and I do a lot of traveling from Nebraska to North Carolina and all between to visit family and go on vacations. This car is built great for long trips with comfortable seating and smooth riding. The great gas mileage it a plus. The size of the interior is great for traveling with the large trunk that will fit all of our suitcases and still have room for things we buy while we are traveling. We have had no major problems with my car, other than normal things like oil changes.

Overall, I really enjoy my car. I have taken it on many road trips. I went to California twice -- which is 500 miles away from me. I also took it on many 50+ mile day trips. It still looks like a relatively new car. My sister once backed it up into my father's truck, so it has a significant dent in the rear passenger door. That obviously had nothing to do with the manufacturer, but it is worth noting that even with a dent, the paint did not scratch on the car, and I never had the car repainted. However, there are huge flaws in the design, and it has cost me a lot more than it's worth. At fewer than 100,000 miles, I had to replace the throttle body. It was dangerous too! It caused the car to go into engine power down mode and simulated traction control basically causing me to only go 30 mph on the highway and have reduced ability to get off onto the off-ramp due to the traction control being triggered. It has been very stressful knowing that I could have a car shut-down at any moment, as three mechanics could not adequately diagnose my problem, because the check engine light and diagnostics didn’t give codes that said it was the throttle body. It has been a troublesome car.
