Volkswagen Golf GTI OWNER RATINGS & REVIEWS

Sleek and sexy, as well as efficient
This is by far my favorite car that I have ever owned. Despite it's less than spectacular appearance and performance, I find it one of the most desirable affordable cars on the market. The Volkswagen has always been one of my favorite car manufacturers. German auto engineering is impossible to beat in my opinion. This car can be fast if you want it to be, but also kills it in fuel mileage and is very sexy. I have gotten laid many times simply because of my car.

Great hatchback.
Having owned this since new, I really have enjoyed my 2012 VW GTI. It's been driven mostly in the city, but I've also taken it cross-country a few times. On one trip, I didn't shut the car off (except for gas stops) for 24 continuous hours. It weathered the trip well. It has enough room to comfortably seat 4 adults. The engine is well-powered, and gives me plenty of get up and go. For the record, I have the 6-speed manual transmission. I go camping with the dog, and I can fit all the gear we need for a week-long trip. The leather seats have stood up well to the beating I mete out. I recommend upgrading to rubber floor mats, but otherwise the interior has held up well. My main complaints are some electrical gremlins that make the power button on the windows and sunroof act up. Neither the dealer nor independent shops can track down the problem. Also, there is an exhaust sensor that I've had to replace at least twice due to a defect and subsequent recall. With regular maintenance, the GTI has held up well. In 6 years and 80k miles, I've only had to replace tires/brakes/suspension, plus regular fluid changes. I consider that to be a big win!

One of the most fun cars I've ever owned.
Before buying my 2012 Volkswagen Golf GTI, I did a lot of research into the type of vehicle I wanted. I knew I needed something I could fit my family in, something that got good gas mileage, and most importantly to me, something that was also fun to drive. This, fortunately narrowed my list down, and I ultimately went with the GTI, which hasn't disappointed in the five years I've owned it. Gas mileage has been good throughout the life of the car. I typically go between a week and a half to two weeks before I need to fill up the tank. Maintenance is my biggest issue, but it's kind of par for the course with German cars. I haven't had any big issues with the car, but the regular maintenance cost is pretty expensive. Every 10K miles I was dropping another $300 - $600 in check-ups and the like. I've never had it break down on me, though, and it's definitely a reliable car. The car drives smooth, though. It has a nice burst of acceleration. It's faster than most of the cars on the road, but you won't be blowing away any Mustang GTs or Camaro RSs.
