Safe and reliable
I liked that it was safe and had good gas mileage. I wouldn't have to worry about it starting on cold days or anything of that sort, even 10 years after purchase. Nice compact car, but still big enough for some storage space. It never let me down on the road.

Runs great with many "little" problems
The Volvo V40 is a dependable car. I bought this year 2000 in 2013, and it has more than 118,000 miles on it. The engine and the transmission seem to be running well, but the vehicle has several little problems that can add up when considering the cost of repairs. For example, the turn signals and hazard lights are not working properly. I believe it is the switch on the dashboard that needs to be replaced for the turn signals to work properly. The hazard lights normally work, but now there is problem where the button won't stay depressed in order to keep them off. I've also had to replace the gear shift lever because of a broken button that wouldn't allow the keys to come out of the ignition. I feel like the major elements that one looks for in a car are satisfactory. It's safe and comfortable and a pleasure to drive, but many of the smaller components did not receive the attention or quality workmanship that I would expect from a manufacturer such as Volvo.

An excellent, reliable vehicle.
I fell in love with this car the moment that I saw it, sat behind the wheel, and drove it. It was comfortable, roomy, fast, and reliable. I like the look, the way it handles, and just the feeling I get while driving it. The fuel economy is great, since it is a diesel, and engine noise is not an issue. Even though the car has over 100,000 miles on it, it still feels like it is new. The interior is flawless, and the undercarriage is rust-free. I also love the fact that the seats fold down and I can fit so many things into the back.
