1997 Ford Ranger OWNER RATINGS & REVIEWS
Lakewood, Colorado
Reliable vehicle for responsible owner.
My vehicle runs great. It is a smaller truck that can seat three people tightly in the cab. The transmission is a manual, and has not had an issue yet. The car was rusty when I purchased it, but after some hard work most of the rust has been removed. My fuel pump and fuel filter broke at the same time, which left me stranded. Luckily the part was an easy find, but unfortunately it was a hard fix. Replacing the two parts took me almost 8 hours. There is plenty of hauling space in this truck. The bed is about six by eight feet, and it has a topper so weather is never an issue when hauling. The door hinges seem to be lower quality, they are extremely loose and they do not always open the door on the first try. Maintenance on this vehicle is extremely easy. I was able to replace my transmission fluid, brake fluid, oil, and radiator fluid in under three hours. The heaters are amazing and are able to defrost my windows in under five minutes. Overall this vehicle has been an excellent purchase.

Reliable Truck!
The Ford Ranger is an excellent truck. I have put over 230,000 miles on it and it's still running strong. There are no rattles and it is as solid as it was back when it was new. I have had no issues with anything on the truck. As long as you complete the scheduled maintenance and checkups the Ford Ranger will last you a long time. The interior is definitely dated as this truck is almost 20 years old. I have upgraded the stereo so I can play music off of my phone and I had to replace the speakers in the door of the truck as they blew out a few years back. Other than that, this has been the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
The fuel economy is not up to par with newer vehicles and you will receive lower performance if you are not keeping up with the scheduled maintenance.
The styling is dated as it is an older truck but it's a practical vehicle that will allow you to haul lumber, washers and dryers, bikes, motorcycles, I've put a canoe back there, pretty much anything you need you can haul. I've hauled chopped wood for fires, goats, friends, beer.
This will haul almost as much as the newer F150s I see driving around with the extended cab. I'm not sure what the point is in having an extended cab truck as you lose all that hauling capacity.
The Ranger doesn't have a lot of get up and go but it will get the job done and then some!
