Daewoo in disguise
First of all, I was surprised to discover that this "Chevrolet" Aveo actually originated as a Daewoo automobile from Korea. I've had a previous Chevy, a Prism, that was actually a Toyota Corolla originally. They were foreign cars with an American make slapped on the name. That being said, this Aveo was originally built with plastic car parts. For example, the thermostat housing failed: as a plastic piece, it cracked under the amount of heat exposure under the hood (resulting in a coolant leak and being stranded in a parking lot). An aftermarket aluminum thermostat housing was available from the nearest auto parts store and installed to replace the plastic housing. Why couldn't they install metal parts in the first place to avoid such situations? The plastics within this car can become brittle and break easily. Just trying to replace the brake light bulb required me to break the light housing, just to pull it off the car. To retrieve the door lock cylinder (by the exterior door handle), required me to break off the plastic covers for the side mirrors and the inside door paneling. Too many easy to break plastic parts on this car.

Budget car, expensive fixes.
This car started falling apart the day I got it. Okay, maybe that's an exaggeration, but things quickly went wrong. Originally, I thought I had gotten a good deal simply because it was painted a terrible sea-foam green. Soon after, my turn signal wouldn't "pop back" after turning a corner. I had a warranty so the dealer fixed it. A month later it started again, and I had it fixed again. Then, on the driver seatbelt, the tab that keeps the buckle from sliding all the way down to the floor broke off. Then the windshield sprayers fell off while driving. I'm sure the sun didn't help here, but the car was only about a year old. Then the lights started malfunctioning. Eventually, I was out of my year warranty and the costs of these repairs has really been out of control. The car drives okay, but the ride is terrible. Your butt hurts after an hour from the seats, and there are just too many problems.

I really like it
I have a 2005 Chevy Aveo hatchback and it has made me want another Aveo in the future. Although it is a compact car it is quite spacious inside. The back seats fold down so that this small car is able to carry rather large items in the back. I also like that its small size makes it good on gas mileage. It typically gets 20-30 miles per gallon, which is pretty good for how old the car is. The small size also makes it easy to park and navigate tight roads. What I do not like about the car is the aluminum wheels which have become very porous and allow air to seep out of the tires. I had to invest in my own air pump because the tires need refilled weekly. Another negative point about the car is the gas cap door. It has a latch that you need to open it with from the driver seat. The latch pulls a plastic piece that unlocks the gas door. This plastic piece recently broke off of my car and now the gas door can no longer lock into place. It doesn't seem easy to replace either. Other than those few cons, the car has been a great investment and a reliable vehicle.
