St. Louis, MO Driving Tips
St. Louis drivers tend to be extremely erratic, in particularly on the highways. The one tip I will give to others driving in this city is to change lanes one at a time and use your turn signal.
St. Louis, MO Buying Tips
Car sales in St. Louis is a very competitive business. From my standpoint it is best to build a relationship with your sales person at a reputable dealership and always do a little bit of comparison shopping online before hitting the dealerships. Research the make and model of the cars you are interested in buying beforehand. I tend to use only well known dealers when buying cars because I have found the after care and service to be far better at the dealership. Craigslist is a place to start your research but do not limit yourself to Craigslist. Most large dealerships have their own website so I usually browse the inventory there and may make an initial call. I normally have 3 dealers I may want to deal with and will let them all know I am also working with someone else. I think this cuts through most of the price negotiation process and you can usually get a fairly decent quote right from the outset.
Favorite driving memory
I was driving from South Grand Avenue to Jefferson Street to work on a very cold day in December. We were having the worst blizzard we have seen in years. Work is only about 3 miles and I gave myself an extra 20 minutes to get there that morning. The wind was gusting at around 50 mph that icy, snowy morning and the traffic lights were blinking sporadically. Traffic was a nightmare that morning. You could not see the lines on the streets and none of the lights were working. A fire truck was stuck ahead of me next to the exit ramp on Highway 44 and traffic was snarled and stuck. After 4 hours of creeping along and stopping I gave up and slowly found my way back home. I finally got home put a fire in the fireplace and wound up hibernating for 2 days until the streets were clear.
Favorite road
Euclid Avenue. I enjoy driving on St. Paul Road because it's in the country on the way to the stables I board my horse at. I love the S curved road with thick forestry on both sides of the road which is usually dappled with sunlight. Towards the bottom of the hill is a stretch of flat road with a horse farm taking both sides of the road and ending with a one lane wooden bridge at the end. Once through the bridge you continue on with Sheffield Forest bordering both sides of the road and if you're lucky you can catch a glimpse of deer grazing in the trees.

St. Louis, MO Driving Tips
Get directions for wherever you are going and familiarize yourself with them thoroughly, especially if you are going downtown since some of the streets are one way. If you are going to a Cardinals baseball game, I would highly recommend that you park in the outlying area and take one of the many buses that go to and from Busch Stadium rather than try to find a parking space near the stadium since parking is hard to find and if you can find one, the price is out of sight, plus traffic is a nightmare during a game day so it is much better to avoid the traffic jams during that time.
St. Louis, MO Buying Tips
Check and recheck the dealer. If possible, try to talk to friends or relatives who have purchased cars in St. Louis before. If there is no one you can check with, I would recommend going to the various dealer websites and look for customer reviews - also, I would check to see how long each dealer has been doing business in St. Louis since there are some that have been around a very long time which would indicate that they are reasonably reputable or they wouldn't last that long. You can also check with the Better Business Bureau.
Favorite driving memory
My son purchased a new house and my husband and I drove over to his house to visit him for the first time. I had to drive our car since my husband was unable to drive at the time. I had never been in this particular part of St. Louis before so I got directions from my son. We had no problem following directions from our house. His home was near the Holly Hills Subdivision and as we turned onto that streets, I found it was a very pleasant drive. The street was divided and there were beautiful Spring flowering shrubs and flowers in the divide with a really nice park on one side of the street. It was a very pleasant drive to my son's house and I was pleased to find that he was so near to the park and in a very quite neighborhood with a light traffic pattern, but at the same time, he was just a short drive from the interstate so it was convenient for getting to work.
Favorite road
Hampton Ave. Since it's near Forest Park. Hampton Ave. Connects with Forest Park. I love going there since it houses the Art Museum, the Science Center and the Planetarium. The Muny Opera is also located in the park that one can enjoy during the summer months. It's the most direct way to get to the park and it's four lane with traffic lights at each important intersection so it is easy to navigate without too much trouble.
