There was a time when you could get a one ton version of an F250 or F350, so if you are considering an older truck you might be able to get away with a lower trim model. My 1996 F250 was such a truck, with the features I wanted. I specifically wanted a long bed with an extended cab (and not a crew cab). I haven’t seen any F350 from my year with just an extended cab. On the other hand it is far easier to end up in over your head with a repair for a F350. I’ve known construction workers who had to sell an old truck because they can’t afford to fix what is wrong with it.
